Archiving North End Communities

The Community Archives Center is coming to the Wheelock branch to document stories from the North End community! Stop by on January 21st from 11:00 am-3:00 pm to share your story and add to the Community Archives Center digital archive. Record a short oral history (any language welcome!) about your life in Tacoma. Bring a special family photograph, document, or recipe that helps tell your story and have it scanned at our Digitization Station. View highlights from the Northwest Room's local history collections related to the North End. Kids of all ages are invited to create their own comic book. You have a unique and important story to tell. By sharing your oral history, family photos, or special family recipes with the Community Archives Center, it can become a part of Tacoma's collective memory. We look forward to hearing YOUR STORY on January 21st!  Refreshments will be served.

Fun Run Mondays

Learn to Play Go

Learn to play Go in this 3-week class. Go is an ancient Chinese game of strategy, similar to chess, that is believed to be the oldest board game still being played today. Instructor Tom Cruver is the founder of the South Sound Go Club and a veteran player. The 1st two classes will focus on instruction with time for practice. The 3rd class will be focused on play. Computer Basics – Email Basics (In Person)

TPL Wheelock Branch 3722 North 26th Street, Tacoma, WA

In this hour-long workshop, attendees will create a Gmail account, learn how to perform basic email functions like send, receive and reply to an email, recognize and deal with spam, organize and delete emails and search for messages. Today's workshop is provided by AT&T and the Public Library Association using resources found at www.digitallearn.org. This workshop is in person at the Wheelock Branch. It is intended to serve 1 to 6 people maximum. Registration is not required, but space will be limited.

Craft Afterschool: Perler Bead Creations

Perler Beads are plastic fusible beads. Beads are arranged on pegboards to form patterns and then fused together with an iron. Stop by the Wheelock branch from 3:30-4:30pm and share your creativity at the library and take home the Perler Bead designs you created.
